In short
- A changing or unusual mole is removed completely and sent for testing.
- Skin tags are removed in minutes under local anaesthetic.
- Warts are a viral infection and may need more than one session.
Does a mole need checking before removal?
A mole that is changing in size, shape or colour, bleeds, or looks different from your other moles needs a closer look. Dermoscopy shows patterns beneath the surface that decide whether it can be removed simply or should be sent for testing. See the mole warning signs.
How are moles, warts and skin tags removed?
- CO2 laser: for skin tags, warts and flat or raised moles that look harmless.
- Shave removal: for raised moles, leaving a flat surface.
- Surgical removal with stitches: for moles that need testing under a microscope.
- Treatments that use the immune system for many or stubborn warts, such as autoinoculation or injections into the wart.
All are done under local anaesthetic, usually in a single visit.
How do I care for the area afterwards?
- Keep the area clean and apply the prescribed ointment until it heals, usually within one to two weeks.
- Do not pick the crust.
- Use sunscreen on the healed spot for a few months to prevent a dark mark.
Will it come back?
A completely removed mole does not usually return. New skin tags can appear elsewhere over time. Warts can return because the virus may remain in nearby skin, so follow-up is sometimes needed.
What does it cost?
Cost depends on how severe the problem is and which treatments suit you. After the consultation you are told the likely number of sessions and the cost before anything is booked.

Common questions
Will removal leave a scar?
Most removals leave a small flat mark that fades over months. Careful technique and sun protection afterwards give the best result.
Is it painful?
The area is numbed with local anaesthetic first, so the removal itself is not painful. Mild soreness for a day or two is normal.
Can every mole be removed with laser?
No. A mole that looks unusual is removed surgically so the whole mole can be tested. Laser is used only for growths that look harmless on dermoscopy.
